Reason? Sadly I don't have enough money to do this dirty work ![]()
So they enter with meat and don't insta-drug the dog, probably thinking that you need it to dance right after... They should at least try!
Yeah, but with a dog behind you, you never can do a dance and commit is in plan but has no importance now(It would only add a layer where the robber needs a ladder to scout and I will be not a target soon by experienced robbers who want to survive) . This dance is nearly a masterpiece IMO. Thanks to Patrick Benjamin Conway I found a little flow in my committrap. He was the last one who could escape like that. Took me really long to find a solution with that limited space. ![]()

Yeah but, it is meta & that is just cheating in a different way.
2 wrongs won't make 1 right.
I don't consider this a kind of cheating, it is just a way to concentrate robbery on one person, like forum robberies.
Oh my god. Please no.

Seems like someone make some santaruns with my toolsuggestion. Got some houses with these items today.
Seems like a memory on the first sight
Then I first need to format it better ![]()
I thought it is necessary now, because of these discussions. Hope my english is understandable =P
Experience
First at all, a new player needs experience and a feeling for loosing.
Let's split up experience. There is the Robberexperience and the Houseownerexperience.
Robbing will increase your Robbingskills fast, and your Houseownerexperience too but slower and the otherway around.
You gain Houserownerexperience through building a house and see robbers break your house. (You gain too experience in dieing because your selfetest fails)
So, what's the best to grow fast into the game?
Get robbing-experience
My tip is 2k suicide-robbing. You get a feeling for the tiles and your tools.
As a start equip for <2k houses I recommend 2 Saws, 2 Bricks, 9 Waters/Dogmeat (5 and 4).
For >2k change either 1 saw for Cablecutter or both. High/Middlelvl houses seldom have the possibility to use saws without ladders or other tools.
Murdererruns help only for highlvl robbery to get a feeling to get to the wife and use her and the kids to get permanent Damage to the house. So for starter not recommend to get experience here at first.
If you get to the vault, you can decide to suicide or just take the vault. Suicide brings money in the game which holds is alive too. Breaking the vault most times take down the house you don't like and if it is a >2k house you made money. Maybe it is now time to settle down?!
One Problem is you will get a chill soon on many houses. Just see it as a game session and the next day, there will be the houses again and new houses.
Get your own house
After you feel experienced enough go on and build a house. You should saw enough traps now in your robbing tours and maybe copy one or the other trap and maybe make it better than the original owner made it. Learn how to use lights to make safe selfetest. The Goal for your house is to hold of four important kind of robbers.
Important types of robbers at the start
2k Suicide-Robber
2k Suicide-Scouter( The most dangerous)
2k Murderers
Robbers who want to survive
How to hold them off?
I explain but the design of traps is up to you.
2k Suicide-Robber: He have one try in 24 hours, so either you want him to waste his tools and die because he hasn't that kind of tool that would safe him anymore or don't give him a chance to use his tools and just let him die early.
2k Suicide-Scouter: More dangerous and nearly the same as the normal 2k Suiciderobber. But his goal is not only to get to the vault. His Goal is too to figure out an easy way to your vault, so his mainaccount get through and get the money+ his rest of tools. How do you hold of a Scouter in any strategic game you ever played? You kill him before he can see anything and that's the perfect goal for all Suicide Robber. Build traps, that don't give him any chance to scout enough to get easy to your wall. Think it the way you tried to get the vault on your tours. Which traps hold you off the best?
2k Murderers: Most times they will have 1 Pistol 3 clubs and 2 Dogmeat. The simple solution is 1 uneven dog and a wife with a shotgun.
Robbers who want to survive, will make most times a safe path back. If it is too expensive, they will leave and search an easier target
Use your new learned experience
Now you will say, but I don't have enough money to build a house with all that goals at first. Most times right, but there are intelligent design that do both for just 1k.
Otherwise rely on your luck and learned skill. Build up your house enough to have a safe place for your tools and go out robbing(Most times I use 1500 and the rest for robbing). You need luck to find a weak house, but your increased skill will help to find them. And after a while you got enough money to have now a safe house.
This was not a step by step tutorial. It was more like a suggest how to get in easy.
Some Tips at last:
If you can get a glimpse on the wife you can see how much money she have and how much is left in the vault. Use this to find good houses to rob too.
Dual Accounters can skip the start weakness with some extra money. But against a good designed house, they can do nothing that hard to take you down. And some are friendly Santasuicide-robber.
Plan some time after you started new and build up a house. You will need it to get extra money to make it really safe. My experience is that I take 1 hour before I am feeling safe enough to let my house alone.
Search for weaknesses! Some combolocks are bad designed and have weaknesses or try often used combinations like 135,125,24 or 235 (5bit lock). You see a doggy dance and electric floor? Try to "deactivate" the dog or get into his dance to see the lock or find the place there the floors go on with cutters and use waters.
If you think you can't get to the vault without surviving and to many tools to be a win, don't do it. Just go onto the next house.
After a while you will see that New Player AND Dual Accounters will keep the game alive. Not Defending it, but with money flowing around there will be more action.
This game is about Frustration and the chills are long enough too let Dual Accounters not be that hard a problem. If you are frustrated about dieing by some other guy, how will you deal with the pressure to be a top-house and maybe die due to a stupid mistake.
If you are unconcentrated, drunk or whatever, don't try to play the game if you have anything you can loose. If you need to get money off buy tools go into a house and go out again. Yeah it is money waste. But do you want to feel safe or do you want to risk your CD Life because you are unconcentrated?
You have many tools? Use them for robbing, they cost effectively half a price. It is better to use 5 saws you got to get 1200. You can sell them anyway only for 1000.
I saw a chihuahua pretend to be asleep once only to bite my leg and trip me into a pit.
yeah, you're right about that stuff. pinching pennies (saws) was the least on my mind at the time
I don't know why he left wooden walls in that whole area but it looked like it had been some time since he changed his house
I know that feel
But I don't think you would step on the plate and then on the dog =P Keep in mind that these pinching pennies could have saved you much money ;P
Yeah a big weakness in a tophouse
But many houses have somthing like this.
definitely agree w the second strategy, I should have done that in retrospect. With the chihuahua I was worried there was an army of dogs behind those powered doors just ready to jump out at me. so I came back better prepared. I'd much rather be overly cautious
A sleepy chihuahua will not move =P
And if things would have went wrong.
Sleep that dogs with 3 meat and block the rest and saw your way out again. Or the safe way saw a shorter path out first and look if there walldogs.
Took down Cory James Powers tonight.
he was in 4th place at the time with a $52,000, 112/60 house
here's the vid of me doing it
Nice Rob, but with your first you had enough to take him down. just trow dogmeat to let the chihuahua sleep step on that door and saw the wall, there was no way that door get power anyway.
Otherwise, why kill the childs that early? Kill just the wife and make enough dmg to scout further. Then take a club and some more instrument if needed to safe that damage too.
I don't know why but many people like do die more in a pit with no chance to survive than to try my trapped door. So I thought i will reveal the start of my house so I can see some suicide robber get past my simple commit. ![]()

All this information you can get free, if you just scout without any tools. The pit to the left is my Trap Nr. 1 now, quite funny.
So we will never hear the win-music cause there is no way to win?
Glory to Castle Doctrine!
*spoiler* It's the victory theme!

Discussions are ok, but not name-listing like that. It is as bad as DA Abuse.
That's actually a really nice place, and would stand against some pretty well-tooled brute force attempts. Just wondering, how did it fall? Were you robbed, or did a self test go awry?
I built it up many times, sometimes it fell trough stupid mistakes or that one time the commit with the chihuahua killed me and it gave me a good idea for a visiontrap.
I just got tired of that house now ![]()

To be honest, the first magic dance should be a shining example to magic dances, and is about as far as I analyzed your house. If I was suicide-robbing your house, I probably would break into several others before I even found a way past your dance, if I did at all. The rest I didn't really look at, though I'm sure it's pretty damn solid. This is the kind of house I'd just let someone else attempt to force.
The first trap was designed to be the only trap in my house until I get more Ideas for the rest of space ![]()
Some kind of sad that my house didn't earn any answer =/
Kimenzar wrote:David Robert Grimsley, where do you get expensive tools that fast?
He robs $2k houses as soon as they pop up, unless I'm quicker than him. Strange thing is they keep popping up when he's online ;-)
I would call him simply a cheater. I am really frustraded now(yeah that is the sense of the game). But this seems like a really rip off. I like to be robbed and brute forced, but not like that.
BUT, i will survive, and alone if I need to
gg Robert Ronald Towle, with that amount of money in my vault, i could have made many more than that
David Robert Grimsley, where do you get expensive tools that fast?
Simple thing, i died too oft and my house got never cracked or a visit by a big/good robber. I have now a new and much better design(Yeah this one is not that well). I just realize that I concentrate to much against bruteforce(avoiding traps) and not that the traps can as just easly be brute forced. So I will present you my house-idea and how it evolve time after time.
http://castledraft.com/editor/4xj6I4
The first complete Layout. Bottom is for wife defense. Top is the way to go for the vault.
The start is simple. Build up the doggy dance with ~1500. Go out for lower houses. ( Most times I can get 2k-3k(500 are more than enough to rob lower houses) and make my house 2k Robber safe)
Then I just waited at 4k and built up the first AND only trap until it had this appearance. Nobody who wants to survive will attack this house, so no worry about bruteforce up to 10k.
Maintraps
First is the Doggydance, easy and cheap to adjust the combination.
Second Trap was a guess game. Wrong doggy door will close the vault complete(Crowbar needed).
Third Trap is a guess game also, choose the right way with a doggy behind you.
Forth is a Faketrap that wouldn't really matter with my experience now.
But, there are also "hidden" traps.
The second commit chihuahuatrap as example. If you step to early to "activate" the commit trap the chihuahua will die on the E-floor and you need a ladder to get further. Or the last "commitgate", i had this part in Fortress Theory as a last trap and it safed my vault two times.
There were many "evolutions" before but sadly I haven't documented them.
The house was especially designed for robbers who want a safe path back.
http://castledraft.com/editor/JbAi2s
Here I optimized the commits at the long hallway. Less space, more advantage. door, button, power, trapdoor is a combi where the robber can scout, go back and water the power to back out, but can't advance further again or he need to use a toolslot for a doorstopper.
Otherwise I thought, if someone scout the doors with the cats, he will wonder why one cat doesn't move at all. Changed it at that houseversion, so all guessdoors will act the same.
And another trap found his way into my house, a simple timer until my vault will close then the cat will see you. Then you need to dance around at the gate until the trapdoor close. This trap will give me headache later.

I added a fake-electronic to waste some saws for robbers. Mixed the metal and concretewalls a little bit for declined vision. Added one more safety trap for the vault and changed the place for the powersupply a bit more north to get the space for that safety trap.
Do you remember my riddle post? Where I asked about the steps? I just wanted to see if there is any better solution than mine and here I added it into the cat timer. Thanks for the help ;P
http://castledraft.com/editor/YEcJng
Here I simply mixed metal and concrete more because I had the money for it and had it all the time in mind. And safe that dog from dieing and being more useful as commit.
http://castledraft.com/editor/AYL7g5
Now my final version. I found a mistake in my last defense(A missing powerplate). Luckily before I died to it
.
And now to my headache trap. I was thinking that this cattimer is a weakness in my "bruteforce defense". If the robber comes from the north he could simply get in the safety zone. So I was thinking and thinking and cursed that toggle switch because it didn't have an alternate version. But after some time I came up with this solution. But one problem I had with it was, that this last cat door now behave different. But it was more safe.
Now I have another safer, more efficient house-idea. I hope you enjoyed the evolution of my old house ![]()
Last note: I could complete this house only two times(without the psychological trapdoors).
(I hope I have no mistakes in the text or links)
Now I am again on the Top ^.^
and i made a horrible mistake to come back, nice change!
Spencer John Tapia... that was not the end... i only made a fault to forgot a dog meat >.>
Sometimes, i'm just drunk and stupid and forgot to safe my new buyed equip and waste it on lower houses -.-'
Ahh my trap is pretty hilarious
Nothing Fortress related but still my house in it.
Kimenzar, I've given you a nice 30k present for the next time you log on (as well as reviving your family). I checked your house map, and just a bit less than what you were worth before (remember, everything's half price). Put it to good use

I built up a new house. I had a idea, but it was too big and too easy to exploit =/ will think of another trap but for now this house should be enough.
