@Jason Thanks for the reply and we'll definitely (eager to) see what happens with Maps and v.6. An as much as I do love the $2 water bottle, the bottle of water is only good if you are getting the source electric floor. If you are at the end of the 9 deep Electric Floors and the Power Source is at the other end its gonna take 9 water bottles.

#77 Re: Main Forum » v.6 Electric Floor Tool? » 2013-05-15 07:39:26

Well if the Elec Floors were 9 deep then Pit's and Powered Trapdoors wont have to be 9 deep anymore. You only need one nine deep part to your house if you really want to use the "nine deep option". Elec Floors are TOO overpowered right now and when every house pretty much has a block of Elec Floors that make the first 10-20 steps a complete one in a million guess its impossible to even get into the rest of the house.

I GET having the Vault near the front as a lure but alot of people are just scratching the idea of making a big puzzle house (IMO how the game should be) and just making a 3x3 to 5x5 square of Elec Floors near the door and calling it a day. Just a 3x3 square can have like 100's of possible solutions.

Zed, I definitely was attempting your house ALOT last week, if its the one i think.... ....your wife is in the middle of that first room right? Very good design and I could tell that its not just a one in a million guess.

Cost was something like 8000; I got the money by not playing for a few weeks. Not only crime pays!

^THIS is something that I have been meaning to ask Jason about. I know that if you quit out of the game when you haven't build a single block or tested your house with your initial $2000 that your house doesn't go up on the Leaderboards. BUT I have had a couple times where I have made money this way after coming back a day or two later but other times I am only given my initial $2000 and my family makes no money. I was wondering what the exact requirements for this are because I know obviously I could just place one block, "prove my house is fair", leave and then make the money BUT my house would then be on the Leaderboard list and instantly I would be robbed for all my dough.

So Jason.......What are the exact requirements for "leaving your house, not on the leaderboards but still able to accrue income?"

Thanks!

Trying to play today but the game is literally at a standstill with no more Abandoned Houses. No one can make a new house with the $2000 and there is no money to be made unless you are trying to brute force the Top Houses. Which are almost all electric floors right as you come in.

Pretty much every build option has a counter tool that can instantly combat it from the get go, except the electric floor (pit/ladder, wall/saw). Even the other build options with two "states" have tools that effect both (power door/crowbar/doorstop). The electric floor is completely unbreakable unless it is on. Any chance there will be a new tool introduced to remedy this? Or even just make the wire cutters be able to cut them?

Ive been trying to find a good way to explain what I was thinking. Colorfusion just did it. Thanks! This is definitely the problem right now.

#82 Re: Main Forum » Abandoned Houses » 2013-05-13 10:17:15

I have had mixed feelings on this topic (as seen above) but definitely am running into a problem now with not being able to "hide" in the game at all anymore. Before this change having a house in the $0-300 range was pretty much safe from never being robbed. but now I have people coming into my house for $38 because it is now on the fourth page from the top. Its an interesting switch and I definitely see why Jason did what he did. I dont really know which side of this argument I stand on but do know that this game is constantly changing and play-styles are having to adapt and be constantly changed ...  ...which rarely happens in games and I think it helps people learn to play the game differently. which is cool.

yes and yes! cant wait for this so i dont have to kill my self on elaborate electric floor setups while testing... ...I also hopefully plan to make some sort of disco dance floor in the center of my house as well! cue the music!

I have been thinking alot about this game and ways to change up the grind it sometimes becomes. I know Jason is working on alot of updates and fixes for v.6 and I cant thank him enough for his hard work. I thought maybe it would be cool to have a "Weekly Featured House" or something maybe made by Jason. It wouldn't have money but maybe a certain painting that you could only get from that house, but multiple people could have the painting.

Those houses could also have this idea I have been kicking around my head which is a "tool set" that the robber would always get when attempting that house. It would be 8 tools at the most like normal but the builder of the house would per-determine these (up to) 8 tools. It could be a way for people to set up houses that aren't just impossible BitLock houses but more puzzle-like in nature that require the right tools at the right place. Also, I know this is maybe ALOT of ideas for one post but I really like the idea of making this game a bit more "puzzle-like" and less of a one in a million bit lock grind. Maybe there could be another "wall panel" to build with, besides the usual 4 right now (wood, wiredwood, steel, concrete) and it would have a sign on it. When the builder of the house places that wall, a small option comes up for the player to write a short message, maybe one of two sentences. Now I'm not a coder and I'm not sure how hard implementing something new like this in a game would be but I think it would be similar to the "little box that comes up when you try and exit the game"? It asks you to write a short message or "press % to quit". That could be where you type the message for this new wall panel. Then we could build houses with little hints and clues for people to see as they are robbing our house.

I dunno, lemme know what you think of these ideas?

Awesome feedback Jason and as usual great reasoning and explanation of what you are going for...Thanks!

DALLECK! Unless someone else has that same intro design I was trying your house for like an hour straight yesterday too, I couldnt figure how to get past that dog through the triple doors!

I believe this is officially the new Bit Lock alternative. I have tried for the last couple hours to solve it and cant figure it. I can see a bit past the walls on the bottom but with the Wall/Elec Floor/Wall its really hard to totally see whats on the opposite side. The top is completely impossible to see because of the limited range of seeing that the top side of the map has. I am assuming it is the same as the bottom but who knows. I know that each direction essentially has a Chihuahua that triggers something when you step on the huge outline of Electric Floors and there must be some magical 35 step process to making the right Step of Fate onto the Electric Floors at the last minute.  This trap is in about 5-6 of the top 20 houses right now. and most seem to have the same Chihuaha part at the bottom. Not sure if it is just a decoy because I have made it so all the switches are off and it still kills me. Any ideas? Anyone solved this trap?

thanks! figured all the money is in people attempting the house and dying.

#89 Re: Main Forum » Abandoned Houses » 2013-05-09 09:02:07

Here's the problem I see with now getting rid of/lowering Abandoned Houses salary. Sorry for the longwinded(longtyped?)ness...

The last couple weeks playing this game I have realized that there are these houses that have small amounts of money $300-$600 that all regenerate to the same amount. They are pretty easy to get to the vault because ALMOST everything is broken/dead. Even though ultimately I have died doing this as well as sometimes the house isn't completely broken. I even started a thread about it (http://thecastledoctrine.net/forums/vie … php?id=234) because at first I was very confused. You see, these houses have been a great way for me to make money over the last couple weeks. They changed the game from the bit-lock/magic dance grind that the game had become into something a bit more fun, at least for me. I could attempt to break into a handful of these Abandoned Houses and make a good chunk of change ($2000-$5000) over time and actually start a good house. I know these technique may seem "broken" and a way of exploiting the game but I also see bit-locks as broken. You see right now people, myself included, just wait for O Houses ($2000 0/0) to become available and just snatch up the $2000. So pretty much either you are on top of the leader-boards or you are spending your first $2000 on random items so your house isn't an O House that even pounces on and then you constantly attempt to break in to a top house. I have been playing this game everyday and an avid reader/poster here on the forums so I see myself as a knowledgeable community member here and not just bias. There are a certain number of "go-to" designs that people have begun to adopt and you pretty much see on the top page of the leader-board every time and that to me seems more "broken" then houses that have been abandoned. Now I know that Jason is going for an aesthetic here and when he has addressed problems or concerns here on the forums things are often compared to how they actually would take place in the real world, a reasoning that I actually love. There are definitely abandoned houses in real life but they don't keep regenerating money, so maybe ultimately getting rid of a salary at all would be something to try? (Sidenote** I know that Jason is working on ALOT of updates and fixing alot of things for v.6 so please dont take this long paragraph as a rant, because it absolutely ISNT. I have truly been enjoying this game everyday and feel as if these forums have been a great way to start discussions and that is all I am trying to do.)

Awesome! Any chance there will be two different types of power sources? One for all 4 sides and one that is horiz/vertical setup?

So Josephs house has 15,000 dollars in it. I went into the house, killed his wife and was only rewarded with $395. Anyone else encounter something like this? Is there ever an instance where the wife doesn't hold half the cash?

Small, maybe dumb, request.....      ...I cant say how many times I have almost clicked the "Suicide" button while robbing someone else's house. I am so used to hovering my mouse over that button because when you are working on YOUR house it is the "Done" button. Any chance it could be moved up or down a tiny bit? I know this is purely a cosmetic touch but it would be even worse then dying from your own poorly placed pitbull to just suicide yourself for no reason.

Thanks

@colorfusion. all of your reasons are SPOT ON. I totally agree with you even though Jearr raises some good ideas. I think one thing that would be a great, albeit simple addition, is the ability to just double click on the house you want to rob instead of click on the "Rob House" button.
