Own name and House Value?

Is there any way to figure out your own name? Is there any quick way to see what the posted value of your house is (from others perspectives)? It's my understanding that the posted value is cash on hand + half cost of tools (presumably rounded some way). Is there an easier way to see what that is for your own house other than counting your tools and figuring out their sell value?

Re: Own name and House Value?

You could describe your house to a friend and give an approximate value to help him find it and/or number of people who have attempted and died to help him locate your house.

Then when he's sure he's got the right one he can at least tell you what your name is. Not sure about house value though.

Re: Own name and House Value?

From what I understand it is intentionally made difficult to find your name and house value to help thwart collusion/alt accounts.
There is also another aspect here: http://thecastledoctrine.net/forums/vie … php?id=408

Re: Own name and House Value?

Don't know anyone else who's playing but my current house value should be in the $27,200 ball park and the house should look all nice and cheap (until you get a bit deeper). If anyone's interested in telling me my name I can give a bit more detail. Not a big deal but I'm curious who I am.

Also curious if names are consistent. Am I named the same from 2 different people's perspectives?

Yes names are allocated to you from a random calculation

Re: Own name and House Value?

The easiest way to find out your total house value is to use the "sell all" button in the backpack menu. Your total money after you sell your tools is your value. After selling the tools you can press "undo" to get them back.

Re: Own name and House Value?

Yes, I added Sell All just for that purpose!

The idea of everyone in the game seeing everyone else by a different name is interesting (but messy, server-side, because I'd need to maintain an n^2 mapping for n players).

Anyway, I DID want people to be able to discuss houses and share stories/lore.  You can see some of those stories in the forums, and it's always cool.

Re: Own name and House Value?

No need for N^2 mapping. You need two hashes per player. One for generating/looking up your own name and another for xorring against other peoples name hash to generate their name.

You could also fudge with the estimate of a houses net worth. No need for that to be too accurate.

Re: Own name and House Value?

I just realized a great way to learn your name (although a bit late) - when you get killed, what if it says "Samuel David Johnson died - $4200 bounty"?  Sure, it wouldn't help you while you're alive, but I think it'd be fun to see once you're dead.
