More ways to check Castle Doctrine, nice! Did I miss it or does it not have "safety walk" option available?

#2 Re: Main Forum » I'm sad to see this game die. » 2014-05-19 09:27:18

Wow, I missed this news. That's amazing!

Like the ideas being discussed here, sign me up. Will give it a try if the server actually manages to work out all the details being discussed here smile

I thought formerly the bounty system was that one's bounty increased $1000 per number of robberies where he committed the murder, regardless of number killed. Had that been altered or did I misunderstood back then? Either way, implementing this bounty system back should quite cut back the bounty boost dual accounts get from killing all the kids ($3000 to $1000).

And down the drain it went. Died in a house. Damn my curiosity. Whelp, least I know how to spot dog-cat commits now.

My bane is dog/wife pincers while scouting low value houses. Beware of those.

I think it's so effective because it completely goes against your intuition of checking the corridor closest to the entrance. Even if you know about the existence of such a trap, it's very hard to go against your usual scouting habit. The flexibility of design for the dog/wife pincer traps doesn't help as well tongue

I was thinking about this thread, and I think one viable alternative could be to allow returning of paintings only at the successful robbery screen.

#8 Re: Main Forum » You should be able to return paintings to Auction house » 2014-03-13 07:42:52

I'm impartial about the ability to return paintings, but it should be free if to be implemented.

#9 Re: Main Forum » Opinion on Paintings? » 2014-03-10 21:19:26

I concur "A Snail In The Sun" is amazing. It also has nostalgia value on my case since it was the very first painting I managed to rob smile

While clearing out some of my old documents on the computer, I happened to find the castledraft code that happened to be one of my earliest finalized house (purchased during the earn real money contest).

http://castledraft.com/editor/88N36y

I look at this now and think - man, I wouldn't build house like this again tongue

Look at all the obvious traps (taken straight from the stickied Common Traps thread) and unnecessary waste of space. Fortunately after some foolish deaths, later version of this design had two more distinct traps added onto it which were sufficient to tide me over 'til the end.

Regardless, now my houses generally tend to be more compact and consist of several branching separated segments ala current meta of hiding the vault location.

Do you still happen to remember your earliest house design, embarrassing flaws you missed on the retrospect, and how your design preference has changed since then?

My commit gates are surprise death traps smile
(one of the most common example for this would be one of those electric floors that seem switch-based but is in fact also clock-based)

Never mind that it gives homeowner more reason to kill off his wife tongue

Strange. Maybe you could replay that play session to see if there had been anything you missed, and if not, report it!

I guess the tool cost decrease and weight mechanic is still being deliberated then?

#18 Re: Main Forum » Seems quiet today » 2014-02-13 21:27:22

It's always nice to see senseless destruction chain, though I won't weep after the weight mechanic (more item = less robbery time) puts it to the rest smile

Wow, I haven't expected there to be actual successful hacker. At least it'll further improve the client security!

What happens if you time out while editing?  Or while looking at the Houses to Rob list?

All the edits you made on the timed out session is lost.

I do not believe there is no time out during the rob list - what would you time out from? Same thing when in list of the tapes, because in both cases your house are vulnerable and in no risk of death. Of course, all the tools in the backpack are returned to the vault after 5 minutes.

Coulda been me. If I suicide run on a richer house and fail, I'll try to make it back out and kill myself in a poor house to give them a free bounty.

I like how you took a step just to prevent the owner from mistaking your generosity tongue

#22 Re: Main Forum » Being able to recover most my money upon death » 2014-02-09 08:29:19

I guess it'll be the same deal as empty vault, except with teleport.

#23 Re: Main Forum » 50 dollar bounty? » 2014-02-04 20:10:12

@ jw2pfd

But slowing down value growth rate will not cause your house to be protected - your house is always targeted and liable to destruction; it just change what kind of robber decides to visit your house. While I understand the suspense part of the community, it is quite unsatisfying as home builder to see robber brute force through the house with amount of tools the house had not yet been prepared for, just because you decided to go to sleep and couldn't update it in time.

There is imminent danger, but if leaving your home unattended for more than six hours is guaranteed ruination, you risk desensitization and apathy. After all, doing stuff to defend against the imminent danger is one of the major point of the game! All the discussion about brute forcing etc. is there because we as community desire proper ratio of security vs danger.

@ jere
I am cautious about how bounty cap would work out. How would such cap handle the tools? Donate them also when reaching the cap? But there is certain number of tools I might desire over others. Also, I am afraid putting direct financial cap on the houses would skew the amount of in-game money that flows into the game compared to the money being lost per death.

#24 Re: Main Forum » This must be a clock level? (Game death no longer your fault) » 2014-02-04 13:17:25

Clocks repeat, take up massive space, and still suffer from weakness of electronics.

I died once to clock trap while having 100k house and it actually impressed me, and personally feel it barely different to screen-scroll cat/chiwawa death - and don't get me started on combo locks haha. I actually appreciate the irony of this trap. Robbers will have to wiggle around a bit upon entering like before tongue

#25 Re: Main Forum » 50 dollar bounty? » 2014-02-04 12:42:51

I know I'm parroting myself here, but lowering the sell value of tools would much help alleviate both problems.

Bring bounty back to $200 which is enough money for beginning houses to kick off, while reduced tool prices would much more effectively and significantly prevent the house value from skyrocketing. When people die, it's $1000 from tool value (NOT the measly $200) that becomes problematic - and these tool values are not available to lower-end houses, who need boost the most. Hell, slash tool sell price to 1/4 and number of money from the starter kit robber would plummet from current $1050 (1000+50) to

EDIT: $700 (500+200).

Bah, Maths.
