It appears that way, yes. Look at the backpack. Those tools cost $2k.
My current life started with me robbing a $25k house with starter tools....
Learn from the robber that beat you and build a new house.
Yea that or rob someone! The guy who got you was using starter tools... now you have that power in your hands.
A strange request in a game about robbing people. Honestly, I would help if I had a new life, but are you really going to make this thread every other day? Santa only comes once a year!
Reading your post a little more, I think you mean you had part of the house that was a puzzle house and you wanted someone to solve it without tools. Still not sure I agree, since it requires a 1 in 3 guess. No?. Oh, I see now. I find it interesting, but it still requires hidden information. There's no way to just mentally "work out" that section until you already know the layout... which is hidden.
I imagine you could build a house that was just a puzzle, but if you think about what that means anyone could come in and with enough thoughtfulness rob you 100% of the time. I'm not sure that's the game I want to play. It was kind of like when blueprints where around, but the puzzles ended up being extremely complicated electronics.
Frankly I'm a little disappointed in the successful robber to be honest.
:\ Why? Because I used tools? As Jason has said, this isn't a puzzle game. It's a tactical game. A combo lock is the clearest sign of that... it's not a puzzle. There's no way to cleverly "solve" a combo lock. You make a guess and 99% of the time you're wrong. I thought I did pretty well with what little I had.
I'm going to attempt to rob this guy with no tools. Depending on how his house is built there is probably a 99.99999% chance I will die in it. My bounty is the prize, as well as the paintings.
Well anyway, thanks! I had fun. For some reason when you said $117k bounty, I wasn't thinking clearly and thought you had actually been keeping a tally. But you got $117k from 234 deaths. In fact, bounties don't take into account people dying in your house. Your bounty ended up being $1100. So I ended up losing about $5k in total. All in all, not a bad deal for two paintings and a bit of fun.
Well it's done...I have a sinking feeling the bounty may have been many times less than expected...unless I can't see the updated value yet.
Please let us know how that turned out, jere.
Or should I say Charles Jeffrey Penn
Heh, yea you can say that. About two orders of magnitude off. Thanks for telling me my name!
mala, that light is the output. connect something to the wires up there.
Not sure if I was the first one because I thought I had checked this morning and Roque didn't have the paintings but then later did, but...
I did it! ![]()
That was kind of intense. I wasn't going to take many risks, but my last stab at it was going to bring my house value down to almost nothing if I had failed.
Funny story. I was chain robbing the other day and came across Roque. I got all the way to the last combo lock and wrote it down to come back without tools. I even have it written down here on a sheet of paper! In the 10 seconds it took me to go back into my house and return, Roque actually got back in and started fixing his place up. So.... I've been eyeing that place for a while ![]()
THax: double or nothing. I'm holding, on top of Mountain and Keep, two very nice paintings: Watermelon and Inspiration.
I'd say mostly hacker free, but there have been known instances where it has happened recently.
Some people try very hard to get rid of their own family....
I'm confused by this thread. Someone already took the paintings, right? Or is this offer still on the table?
I'm kind of scared to attempt anything because of TyrannosaurusHax's username and the suggestion that "I will attempt to steal the paintings back from whoever takes them. I will not use tools."....
I think things have died down a bit. The last time I was on top, I was getting hundreds of bounties per day.
Now I have a mid tier ($20k+) house and it seems like I get maybe a dozen per day. No one is even walking in for hours.....
Things seem to have really slowed down....
Sounds like a sweet offer, but I checked the $0 houses and could not find any with paintings. I suppose it's very likely you could have gotten some more kills since..... in which case, I don't think I have much of a hope of finding them.
Dat feeling when you get scouted by the same person 4 times and once they bring 50 saws. OH NOES! Came to the very last part of my house with 4 doors and guessed wrong. Pretty scary....
I've just remodeled my whole house and went from $55k -> $15k. I've been way too optimistic while at the top, but in reality people are out to get you. I'm taking the advice of jwg, largestherb, blip, iceman, etc. and trying to build the best house I can possibly imagine, instead of skimping.
^Opening one of those doors with the dog alive is suicide. So you have to get the dog to suicide into the pit through a magic dance. Then the safe can be put anywhere in that area.
I've seen a very similar house but it had a complicated electronic magic dance. I'm wondering if it was you also? This is impressive!
What if it counted your backpack value too?
Then you'd at least start at $1k for starter tool runs.
While the general change is something I welcomed, this does raise an interesting usability issue. If your house is worth you $0, $0 houses don't actually help you....
I don't know if it puts you at the top of the $0 houses or not though. If it did, you'd only be a click away from nonzero houses.

I'm guessing this?
Fixed signature weaknesses for object groupWith settings and to prevent deletion of states (thanks Arakira).
Trapdoor is now CLOSED in edit mode
WOOOOOOO. Awesome.
I haven't built something like this, but let me take a stab.
It has to do with forcing robbers to take the dogs out with guns. Doing so requires spacing the dogs out every other tile, which is hard to do in hallway because of camera shifting.
Yea, I would say most people robbing at that level are robbing while also being committed to their own home. That means they're all extremely risk averse. They're probably just looking for low hanging fruit (e.g. nothing but wood and doors, the classic sign of a noob house).
TBH, it's hard to work your way up out of that. You'll have to have patience and maybe do some robbing of your own. But it definitely can be done.
I'm getting at least an 80% commitment rate. Do you, by chance, start your entry way with doors or dogs? Both are going to scare away robbers.
Could always just be a cash thing too. You'll get lots of starter tool robbers with higher house value because they're not going to waste their $2k on a low value house.
^That's really clever sebastian. What a great mod!
Your views on self defense have been interesting. It's unexpected, but I tend to agree with a lot of what you're saying. Sometimes I think it's really strange that police in the UK don't carry guns normally. Then I read articles like this and think maybe we've got it wrong.
Anyway, I don't see TCD as a political message (if it's supposedly advocating vigilantism and anarcho-libertarianism, it doesn't do a good job... the result is clearly hellish). So I think anyone should be happy to play it either way.
